After a day of acclimatization in Cusco, we headed towards Rainbow Mountain.

WHAT TO BRING?

  • Bottle with water
  • Sneakers or booties: preferably for trekking.
  • Layered clothing: Polo - sweater - vest (during the walk there are points where the sun's rays will force you to take off your coat).
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses.
  • Coca leaves.
  • Trekking sticks.
  • Gloves and scarf.
TOUR START:Mobility starts picking up at 3 am at the hotel to take us to Pitumarca, a town 3 hours from downtown. after breakfast back to the truck for about 20 more minutes to reach Ocefina. Here began our walk.UP HILL:The first 30 minutes are very tiring since our body is still getting used to the height of the place. Gradually it increases the difficulty to breathe and they could even feel pain in the back or chest.

There is a stop at a meeting point with our guide and there were several horses for those who prefer not to walk, if they do not have good physical resistance this would be a good option.

The way back is much quieter, but it seems never to end. I recommend you save water for this moment and use a hat because the journey is approximately between noon and 3pm.

Upon arrival, we have lunch in a group and then return to our respective hotels.

That night I slept with a clear thought: I would do it again without hesitation. And if they ask me. Yes, I encourage you to venture.

    RECOMMENDATIONS:

    • Do not carry much weight in your backpacks.
    • Rest as many times as necessary.
    • If you have the possibility of riding, do it. I have seen many people who decompensate for overstressing their bodies.
    • Use trekking poles.
    • Do not forget to bring sunscreen.
    • Spend less than 30 minutes at the top (it could affect your height)

    Thanks to Johana Vega.
